identificationmuseum: The mineral component of bone is comprised mostly of the calcium phosphate mineral hydroxyapatite which is embedded in the organic component type I collagen. When bone is exposed to a mildly acid environment the mineral component leaches out leaving only the pliable organic component. Vinegar is the classic medium to use because it works slowly enough to release the calcium and not destroy the protein scaffolding that gives bone it’s characteristic shape. If left in vinegar long enough the collagen would become destroyed as well. This is a human fibula tied in a knot.

Transplant surgeons keep donor lungs alive outside of a body, hooking them up to venerators so that they continue breathing, while circulating a solution which mimics blood. This technique allows for doctors to better prep for the surgery and assess the health of donor lungs before transplants.

I don’t honestly know why I bothered writing that because if any of you *are* arachnophobes (or, for that matter, sentient), you are currently cowering behind your chair or gently throwing up somewhere. This is the highly venomous funnel-web spider. It’s part of a large group of spiders whose fangs point down rather than towards each other. The upshot of this is that they need to rear upwards before they bite.  Source
