I see a lot of ally hate on Tumblr nowadays. I understand some people’s hearts appear not to be in the right place or they still say dumb things but they still want to help.

Here’s my big point, so I don’t go on a huge tangent.

If you guys keep hating and chastising allies, they aren’t going to the show up to the polls. They aren’t going to be motivated to vote “yes” on gay marriage laws. If someone tells me my support and opinion don’t matter, then why would I show up to the polls? These laws can’t be passed without those people.

So don’t judge allies as a whole based on some stupid people. And you don’t have to like every individual one, but stop pushing them away from the cause.

So I’m supposed to suck up to people who treat me terrible and then decide to turn it around and say that they didn’t mean to and that they’re allies? I’m supposed to just say it’s alright when someone compares the shit I deal with to something trivel and completely unrelated - because they “understand how you feel” or can explain the problem better than someone who is actually involved in the discrimination. 

Plus LGBTQ issues by no means are equivalent to “gay marriage” nor is it the most important issue in the LGBTQ community by FAR. I’m also a little more interested in the fact that I have been denied housing and work because of my gender as well as been cut off by my family leaving me in financial quicksand than I am about marriage. Anyone who is so easily swayed about letting fellow human beings have rights was never an ally in the first place. But if I’m gonna be blunt here most “allies” aren’t even aware of anything other than the problems cisgendered white middleclass americans. I’m going to chastise all I want because being complacent about the state of ‘allies’ is just a pathetic way to perpetuate the problem and never fix anything. 

I’m not going to give people a cookie for meeting the minimum standards of being a decent human being.
